Kebony

Natural WoodMade to Last

Rex Lumber is a premier supplier of Kebony® – the beautiful wood recommended by leading architects. This sustainable, durable wood requires no maintenance beyond normal cleaning, making it a smart choice for your customers’ projects. Kebony’s performance has been proven in a variety of applications including decking, cladding, and millwork. All Kebony woods have a deep brown color that will turn to a silver-gray patina over time. The speed of this graying process depends on the intensity of exposure to environmental elements like the sun and rain combined with the type of application.

Dually Modified™ Wood for Sustainable and Long-lasting Projects

Developed in Norway, the Kebony® technology is an environmentally friendly, patented process, which enhances the properties of sustainable softwood with a bio-based liquid. The process permanently modifies the wood cell walls giving Kebony premium hardwood characteristics and a rich brown color. After exposure to sun and rain, the wood develops a natural silver-gray patina. Performance is maintained, while beauty is enhanced.

Rot-Free Guarantee

Rot-Free GuaranteeKebony® is 100% natural wood that is modified using patented technology to enhance its strength, durability and hardness.

Because Kebony permanently changes the wood’s behaviors, there is no need for constant maintenance; you can simply let the wood naturally gray like Ipé or other Brazilian hardwoods. Plus, Kebony® lumber is warranted against rot for up to 30 years.

Benefits of Dually Modified™ WoodWhat is Dually Modified™ Wood Technology?

Kebony-Dual-Modification-ProcessKebony® uses a patented technique to enhance the wood’s strength and longevity with a biobased liquid. During this process, the wood cell is undergoing both active and passive modification.

Active modification

The biobased liquid reacts with OH-groups present in wood and reduces the water sensitivity significantly. This reaction increases the durability of the wood.

Passive modification

The biobased liquid forms a polymer that reinforces the wood and contributes directly to the strength and hardness of the wood and gives it its brown color.

Thanks to this unique dually modified™ process Kebony, replicates nature and produces wood with equal or superior performance to that of tropical hardwood, in a fast and sustainable way.

Durable, Maintenance-FreeDecking and Boardwalks

Sourced from FSC®-Certified forests, Kebony® Clear decking is engineered to handle the harshest of conditions. The rich brown color and clear grain are designed to impress, while hardwood-like durability and up to a 30-year rot & decay warranty provide supreme peace of mind. Whether you maintain the original color or let Kebony Clear naturally patina, your project will amaze for decades to come.

For this reason, Kebony can handle heavy use on commercial benches, create stunningly intricate outdoor sculptures, or get milled down for wooden guitar picks and silverware handles.

Committed toSustainability
